Memories

Down Syndrome Buddy Walk with Larry

This  year brought a life changing event into the lives of our family.  My firstborn son, Larry, transitioned to his eternal destiny on September 27.

Throughout his years, Larry beat incredible odds each time he was in a medical state of emergency.  On June 1, he was admitted into the hospital with a heart flutter that kept increasing in beats per minutes to a life threatening number.  It would be another ‘beat the odds’ for this unusual man, but that is not what happened.  On June 8, he went into a Code Blue, but was brought back by the  ICU doctor and staff.  He lived another four months on life support that included dialysis and everything else that keeps the body alive.  His courage was beyond remarkable and surprised everyone, especially the multitude of doctors who attended him. He worked hard for three months, then evenutally was able to sample food taste to wean him off his feeding tube and to breathe on his own.  He went into a rehab program at the hospital, but it proved to be too difficult and he became ill again.  A few days before he was due to be discharged with professional nursing care and his caregivers, Tony and his sister, Dolly, his life course took another direction.  He went home to be with his heavenly family.

His strength of character, dignity and the grace he demonstrated throughout his entire life , has always been an inspiration to others.  In a lot of ways, he is my hero and my heart has a large hole that cannot be filled except by the healing grace of God.   As his mommy, he will always be ‘my boy’ whom I am proud to call my son.  I will miss him everyday throughout the rest of my years. Yet, I know … WE SHALL MEET AGAIN!

I just reread this sweet comment.  Thank you Teresa.  Your thoughtful words bring a smile to my face.  It’s been so hard, so very hard.  I’m trying to get back into life through grief counseling and working very hard to understand where and how I’m doing.  My husband is the best, patient, kind and loving.  He is on a mission to get me back into life again.  In doing so, I’ve updated my website, check out the different pages (Although I haven’t updated Alan’s page yet.  He has yet to send the info to me.)  Do look on his page and try to catch his radio program.  The info on how to get it through streaming is on his page.

I appreciate you and your twin and and neat photos….folks just love them. Blessings, Diana
